PDA-Informed Functional Skills Tutor Required - BH1

Support Learners Through a Flexible, Relationship-Led Approach

We're looking for a PDA-Informed Functional Skills Tutor to support children and young people in the BH1 area through personalised 1:1 tuition.

Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll support learners who require alternative educational provision and benefit from a low-demand, flexible approach to learning. Many students have experienced barriers to education and require a tutor who understands how to build trust, reduce anxiety, and encourage engagement through personalised support.

The role will focus on Functional Skills, helping learners develop essential English and Maths skills while building confidence and independence.

Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour

Type: 1:1 Tuition

Requirements

• Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, classroom experience
• Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills English and Maths
• Understanding of PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) and autism-friendly approaches
• Ability to adapt sessions to meet individual needs and reduce learning-related anxiety
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Patient, creative, and flexible approach
• Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally within the BH1 area

Successful tutors will be able to create a learning environment that feels safe, supportive, and responsive to the individual young person's needs.
