As a result of our expansion plans, and our continued ongoing success we are seeking a dynamic Payroll Systems Assistant to be based at our Head Office in Plymouth.

About the Role:

CDS Superstores International Limited operates an in-house payroll function responsible for delivering accurate and timely payroll services to colleagues across the business. The team utilises:

  • Zellis Payroll
  • UKG Workforce Management
  • Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
  • HR and payroll interfaces

The Payroll Systems Assistant will help maximise the effectiveness of these systems while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Support the ongoing administration, maintenance, and optimisation of our payroll and workforce management systems.
  • Assist with system upgrades, enhancements, testing, and the implementation of new functionality.
  • Monitor integrations, system performance, and data quality, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Produce and analyse payroll, workforce, and management reports, providing valuable insights to stakeholders across Payroll, HR, and Finance.
  • Manage data imports, reconciliations, and audits to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide first-line systems support, guidance, and training to Payroll colleagues and business users.
  • Support payroll-related projects, process improvements, and the delivery of operational efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC legislation, GDPR requirements, internal controls, and audit standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to automate processes, enhance user experience, and improve payroll accuracy and service delivery.

Person Specification
  • Experience working within a payroll, HR systems, or related systems environment.
  • Good understanding of payroll processes and data management principles.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the use of formulas and data analysis techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to work confidently with large volumes of data.
  • Experience producing reports and interpreting data to support decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical users.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A professional approach to handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience of using Zellis Payroll and/or UKG Workforce Management (formerly Kronos).
  • Experience working within an in-house payroll function.
  • Knowledge of UK payroll legislation and payroll best practices.
  • Experience working with CSV files, data imports, integrations, and interfaces.
  • Experience of payroll testing, system upgrades, or implementation projects.
  • Knowledge of SQL, reporting tools, or data extraction techniques.
  • Experience supporting business change, process improvement, or payroll-related projects.
