Job Description
Payroll Officer 
Location: Fareham
Salary: £27-29k
The Payroll Officer would be responsible for preparing the monthly payroll up to the point of final checking. This process must be both accurate and timely to meet all payroll deadlines. The role also involves triaging all payroll/timesheet queries, resolving issues independently where possible, and carrying out other finance tasks within the finance department related to daily financial transactional processing.
Responsibilities- Ensure monthly payroll is accurately prepared each month and liaise with HR where necessary, including attending the monthly HR/Payroll meetings.
- Day to day responsibilities:
- Ensure all staff receive the correct remuneration, taking into consideration pension liabilities and court orders.
- Ensure staff information extracted from the weekly attendance sheets is correctly reflected in staff salaries.
- Set up new starters correctly.
- Process leavers accurately and issue P45s.
- Make all statutory deductions accurately and pass them on to the appropriate agency in a timely manner.
- Pass required information to HMRC and the Pensions Trust.
- Manage initial communications with HMRC, DWP, TPT and MOJ regarding court orders for payments.
- Issue all payslips and pension letters monthly, including those for board members.
- Respond to staff and other stakeholder queries in a timely and positive manner.
- Investigate issues and anomalies and suggest solutions that align with legal and payroll frameworks.
- Supervise a member of the finance team to ensure that the weekly attendance management for monthly staff is complete and accurate.

- Assist with administrative processing on the housing management rent database, including correction of user errors and checking Housing Benefit overpayment requests, write offs and write backs.
- Prepare the rent breakdown for any new sublets using the template set at the start of each financial year, and ensure new properties are set up in all appropriate databases.
- Ensure the rent payable for all sublets is correct and paid in a timely manner.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure communications are clear and promote the values of the business at all times.
