Job Description
Overview

We are looking for a Payroll Officer

Are you a detail-driven professional with a passion for precision and people? Advance Charity is seeking a Payroll Officer to manage the end-to-end payroll process, working with our external payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely payments each month.

Responsibilities
  • Process monthly payroll, including manual calculations for overtime, variable hours, complex work patterns, and compressed hours; ensure correct application of cost codes.
  • Administer statutory and company payments (sick pay, maternity pay, and other entitlements); process adjustments for new starters, leavers, promotions, and contract variations.
  • Support procurement and implementation of a new payroll provider/software; ensure compliance with pay-related legislation, HMRC regulations, and internal policies.
  • Manage pension scheme administration (auto-enrolment, contributions, and opt-out processes); collaborate with People and Finance teams to maintain accurate data and payroll cost reporting.
  • Produce monthly payroll reports; assist with financial and audit requirements; respond to employee payroll queries promptly.
  • Contribute to ad hoc tasks and reporting projects as required by the business.
About You
  • Proven experience in payroll processing, ideally within a medium to large organisation; strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
  • Excellent numerical skills, accuracy, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience with complex pay calculations (compressed hours, overtime, varying pay structures); familiarity with pensions administration and HMRC reporting.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; proficiency in IT (especially Excel); experience using FMP or Staffology payroll software is desirable.

Contract Details
  • Location: Hammersmith/Hybrid
  • Hours: 21 hours per week
  • Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 FTE

  • Part-time role with flexibility; annual leave timing may be required outside key payroll periods to ensure continuity
