The Payroll Administrator is part of the HR & Payroll team within Central Services and supports all areas of the organisation. The post holder delivers efficient administrative support across the payroll function, working collaboratively with employees, managers, and stakeholders. The role ensures smooth processes, compliance, and consistently accurate output. A commitment to firstclass customer service underpins every aspect of this role.

Main duties of the job

To provide dedicated payroll administration to support accurate, timely and compliant payroll processing. This role forms the primary support to the Payroll Lead and ensures resilience, business continuity, and excellence in payroll operations.

Payroll Administrator

21 hours per week - flexible within the working week FTE £25,400 - £27,560 per annum (pro rata), depending upon experience

What you will be doing as our Payroll Administrator

  • Support the Payroll Lead in preparing, inputting and validating payroll data including starters, leavers, hours worked, overtime and statutory deductions
  • Maintain accurate payroll records within Staffology
  • Carry out initial payroll checks and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Act as a first point of contact for routine payroll queries
  • Ensure payroll processes remain compliant with HMRC and statutory requirements

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Relevant qualifications in Maths functional skills Level 2 or GCSE grade C, or equivalent.
  • Working towards or have completed relevant Level 3 qualification in Payroll or Finance
  • Working knowledge of the main functions of a payroll team.
  • Upholding principles of data protection and confidentiality in the handling of sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of payroll priorities in the third sector
Experience
  • Experience of navigating various HR and payroll systems to input payroll information.
  • Experience of undertaking checks and audits of payroll information for accuracy
  • Experience of working within organisations of 250+ employees
Skills and Competencies
  • Good communication skills including verbally and written, appropriate to a range of individuals including employees, managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills, including ability to plan and organise workload in line with deadlines and priorities.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong general IT skills, confident in the use of Microsoft Office apps and HRIS.
  • Ability to take responsibility for given areas of work and act on own initiative as appropriate.
