Patient Services Administrator - Ophthalmology

NHS AfC Band 3 - Permanent (Full time or Part time)

Site: Lister Hospital, Stevenage
Other sites: New QEII Hospital, Welwyn Garden City and Hertford County Hospital

Salary: £25,760 - £27,476 per annum (Yearly)

Overview

We are recruiting for a Patient Services Administrator in our Ophthalmology team across multiple sites. The role involves working across bookings, waiting lists and reception, providing reception cover for clinics, managing patient records, and supporting clinical staff.

Responsibilities
  • Book clinics, answer the phone and provide reception cover for clinics.
  • Cash out clinics and liaison with clinicians and other staff to ensure smooth running of the department.
  • Report potential concerns regarding clinic availability to the line manager and anticipate future needs.
  • Confirm the validity and accuracy of patient demographics and update appropriate systems.
  • Monitor IT systems for potential duplicate entries or related referrals and take remedial action as necessary.
  • Use the PAS system, Choose and Book software to receive, manage referrals, support choice offers and book appointments.
Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
  • ECDL.
Previous Experience
  • Ability to work in a busy office environment.
  • Keep accurate and complete records consistent with legislation, policy and procedures.
  • Experience of NHS patient records processes.
  • Understanding of NHS procedures.
Skills
  • Communicate with a range of people on a range of matters in an appropriate form.
  • Assist with improving communication.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of NHS PAS systems.
  • Knowledge of Choice and waiting time targets.
