It is an exciting time to join the Emergency Department at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital! We are looking for Paediatric nurses with proven experience in emergency care to cover a 12 month fixed term post for maternity leave as a band 6 senior paediatric staff nurse.

We are looking for nurses dedicated to providing a high standard of care and keen to build upon their leadership skills. There are lots of changes and developments happening and this is your opportunity to help shape the future for children requiring emergency care in RTE and surrounding areas.

Fixed term/secondment for 12 months to cover maternity leave. If you are interested in applying for it as a secondment, please obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.

Main duties of the job

The ED provides 24 hour emergency care for children where we are actively working on the development of a designated Paediatric area within our department.

Exciting internal opportunities exist within the unit for training and development in dealing with emergency care patients (e.g. Advanced Life Support, Trauma care and Advanced Paediatric Life Support). We have a dedicated Practice Development Nurse for ED to oversee professional development of staff.

The successful candidates must be enthusiastic, dedicated, and skilled in Paediatric Emergency Care. As a senior staff nurse, you are expected to have experience and be competent to care for patients who attend with an array of presentations from minor injuries to acute emergencies needing resuscitation; and provide support to junior members of the team.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30 minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. Person Specification Qualifications and Training

• NMC Registration
• Children's Nursing Degree
• PILS
• APLS/EPALS or equivalent
• TNCC/ATNC or equivalent

Experience

• Experience working in the Emergency Department
• Recent experience in acute paediatrics
• Level 3 Children's Safeguarding

Clinical Skills

• Manchester Triage Trained
• IV Competent
• Venepuncture/cannulation
• Plastering

Skills

• Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above

£39,263 to £47,280 a year per annum, pro rata
