Job Description
Paediatric asthma and allergy clinical research fellow

The University of Southampton Faculty of Medicine is offering an appointment to be based within the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton General Hospital. The post holder will work within the paediatric respiratory and allergy research team and will primarily undertake a trial focused on the prevention of childhood asthma, supporting studies on preventing food allergy and managing acute severe childhood asthma. The post will provide practical training for a middle grade doctor in the conduct of clinical trials, focusing on all stages including implementation, recruitment support, regulatory approvals, data collection and integrity, data presentation, and translational sample work. Training in Good Clinical Practice, clinical trials methodology, research governance, and regulation will also be provided, with an option to undertake a higher degree.

The appointee will provide day to day medical support for study teams under supervision from Professor Graham Roberts (Professor of Paediatric Allergy and Respiratory Medicine). Responsibilities include trial implementation, protocol amendments, ethics committee documentation, R&D submissions, and training in clinical trials methodology.

The post is at registrar level, requires a medical qualification, and is suitable for a trainee with relevant experience in paediatric medicine or for someone wishing to pursue this specialty prior to obtaining a training number. It is a University appointment with no direct clinical work. Duration is 12 months initially, at 0.8 FTE; a full time position may be arranged upon discussion. Salary range £46,675 to £62,502 applies to applicants who were at ST3 on or before 2 August 2016.
