Packaging Supervisor - Avoca Central Bakery & Kitchen Bray

Job Summary:

The Packaging Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day function of the CBK packaging activity. This role is a highly focused on food packaging supervision. A Food Packaging Supervisor ensures the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of packaging lines, managing staff, quality, and production schedules. Key responsibilities include overseeing daily packing, adhering to HACCP and GMP standards, maintaining hygiene, minimizing waste, training personnel, meeting production targets, ensuring accurate documentation, and fostering a continuous improvement environment. Generally requiring 1-3+ years of leadership experience in a food production setting. Require working efficiently in fast-paced, between ambient and chilled environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, train, and develop packaging staff, fostering high performance and adhering to health and safety (H&S) policies.
  • Efficiently pack, seal, and label food products, often at high speeds.
  • Execute production plans, ensure optimal department & equipment efficiency, and meet tight, high-volume deadlines.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Food Safety, Hygiene, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations, ensuring all products meet quality specifications.
  • Establish processes and controls for assigned inventories, including FIFO, shelf-life management.
  • Inspect products for quality, ensuring they meet standards before, during, and after packing, including detecting and logging defective items.
  • Maintain high-level food safety, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and hygiene standards.
  • Mentor and supervise staff, ensuring compliance with safety procedures (PPE) and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Supervise, training new operatives, and ensuring the team hits daily output targets.
  • Drive improvements in production, packing, and train new operatives.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of production, packaging, and quality checks.
  • Investigate quality incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Resolve technical or operational issues on the floor promptly.
  • Ensure staff are aware of all Health and Safety regulations including.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a food production or manufacturing packaging environment, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, BRC), and machinery operation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in computer systems for reporting (e.g., MS Office).
  • Attention to Detail.Ability to spot quality issues and follow exact specifications.
  • Experience with automated packaging machinery.
  • Strong understanding of HACCP, food hygiene, and health & safety standards.
  • Food Safety/HACCP Certification.
  • High attention to detail, ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, and strong, clear communication skills.
