Job Description
Overview

The Outbound Manager is responsible for leading and managing all Wholesale outbound warehouse operations, with full accountability for the Afternoon and Night Shifts. This role is pivotal in driving operational excellence, improving processes, and ensuring the efficient and accurate fulfilment of customer orders. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, a solid understanding of warehouse systems (particularly KiSoft), and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

  • Oversee all Wholesale outbound activities including picking, packing, dispatch, and shipping.
  • Take full ownership of the Afternoon & Night Shifts, ensuring smooth handovers, consistent performance, and adherence to service level agreements.
  • Monitor daily operational performance and proactively address issues to maintain high standards of productivity and accuracy.
  • Ensure all outbound processes are executed in line with company SOPs and customer expectations.
Process Improvement & Efficiency
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements to increase throughput and reduce operational costs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles or similar methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and eliminate waste.
  • Support automation and digitisation efforts within outbound operations.
Systems & Data Management
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of KiSoft.
  • Use system data to monitor performance, identify trends, and support decision-making.
  • Ensure accurate inventory movements and order tracking through effective system utilisation.
  • Support training and development of team members in system usage and troubleshooting.
Team Management & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Operatives.
  • Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and conduct regular reviews.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning for outbound roles.
  • Experience dealing with complex investigations, disciplinaries, grievances and appeals
  • Liaise with other departments (Inbound, Inventory, Transport, Customer Services) to ensure seamless operations.
  • Conduct regular team briefings, shift handovers, and performance updates.
  • Act as a key point of contact for operational queries and escalations during the evening shift.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management on performance, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Health & Safety
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations across all outbound activities.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure all staff are trained and equipped appropriately.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of equipment, PPE usage, and working practices.
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions where necessary.

Personal attributes: Qualifications, experience, skills, knowledge and competencies required to fulfil the role
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in warehouse or logistics management
  • Proven track record in leading teams and improving operational performance
  • Excellent understanding of warehouse systems (preferably KiSoft or similar WMS)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to shift patterns and operational demands
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Experience managing large teams
  • Lean Six Sigma or similar process improvement certification and proven track record of implementing process improvement
  • Degree level or equivalent
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or high-volume distribution environments
