Contract: Permanent, Full time / Part time. Hours: Full time (37.5 hrs/week) Part time (pro rata). Salary: Per annum. Job ref: 387-S-5828-LH-A-A. Closing 25/01/:59. Site: UHBW Town Bristol.

Job Overview

Are you an experienced Orthopaedic Practitioner (Plaster Technician) looking to work in an outstanding acute trust? This role involves working across two hospitals at UHBW: Bristol Royal Infirmary and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, providing orthopaedic casting, bracing and related clinical care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Competently apply, adjust, and remove all types of casts and splints as prescribed.
  • Assess, plan, and evaluate patient care involving casting or splinting, and liaise with clinicians.
  • Advise clinicians on appropriate materials and treatment pathways.
  • Obtain informed consent from patients for casting/splinting programmes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team activities across out patients, wards and theatres.
Qualifications and Training
  • Qualified Practitioner with British Orthopaedic Association registration (BOA).
  • Registered with the Association of Orthopaedic Practitioners.
  • Capacity to pursue relevant post basic university accredited study programmes.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Extensive experience in orthopaedic casting, functional bracing and musculoskeletal anatomy.
  • Broad knowledge of hospital clinical practice and specialist technical expertise in casting/bracing.
  • Significant post qualification experience as part of a multidisciplinary team with adults and children.
  • Experience in teaching and supportive roles.
Skills and Abilities
  • Expertise in making, adapting and applying specialist braces.
  • Wound care management and safe practice aligned with Trust policies.
  • Clinical judgement to assess threats to life/limb and intervene appropriately.
  • Teaching and supervisory capability.
  • Independent work, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
