Job Description
Ophthalmology Failsafe Officer

The closing date is 10 December 2025

2 full time (37.5 hours per week) posts to work within the Ophthalmology Department at Hull Royal Infirmary. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated person to join the Ophthalmology Department as a Failsafe Officer. The successful applicant will be instrumental in maintaining failsafe procedures and will have responsibility for process monitoring, and data validation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will also assist in improving the quality and system for the collection of data used within the department to indicate performance against local commissioning targets and KPI's. To participate in information retrieval to support research and the audit programmes. The Failsafe officer will be responsible for reporting functions for patients within the Ophthalmology Service for patients that are referred to the service or patients who are retained for treatment / monitoring. On top of this, the Failsafe Officer has a responsibility for monitoring treatment timelines for intravitreal injection patients and patients on the Outpatient Waiting List whose timelines differ from the 18 week RTT pathway, plus other failsafe reports.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • ated to diploma level or NVQ Level 4 or equivalent or relevant experience and significant NHS experience
Experience
  • Experience of managing high volumes of work and delivering tight deadlines
  • Significant experience in the use of data management and administration systems
  • Good keyboard skills with experience of using databases and MS office and excel
  • Experience using Lorenzo and Medisoft/Medisight electronic patient record system
  • Good working knowledge of Ophthalmology operational processes
  • Understanding of failsafe officer role
Skills, Knowledge and Ability
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work to tight deadlines without supervision and on own initiative
  • Ability to analyse data and generate reports (e.g. use of excel spreadsheets)
  • An ability to ensure accuracy and maintain patient records
  • Knowledge of RTT targets

  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
  • Evidence of continued professional development
