Operations Director - Major Projects

Location: National

Salary: Competitive

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday

What you'll do:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Operations Director to lead our Major Projects, delivering safe, reliable, and efficient operations across a broad network of infrastructure and field services. This leadership role requires commercial acumen, strategic vision, and operational excellence within the construction and infrastructure industries.

You will oversee people leadership, financial performance, innovation, and compliance across multiple operational teams, while ensuring service excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

People & Team Leadership

  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team of managers, supervisors, and field staff.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, innovation, and safety.
  • Drive talent development and succession planning.

Operations & Strategic Oversight

  • Manage complex operations across utility infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance, operational efficiency, and environmental best practices.
  • Lead business planning with autonomy in decision-making.

Financial Management & Growth

  • Manage budgets focusing on cost optimization and value creation.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth and operational improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement & Governance

  • Act as a senior liaison for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and health & safety standards.
  • Represent the organization in strategic meetings.

Business Development & Risk Management

  • Identify growth areas within the sector.
  • Lead risk management, audits, and emergency response planning.
  • Maintain safety, compliance, and quality standards.

Innovation & Sustainability

  • Promote adoption of new technologies and sustainable practices.
  • Encourage continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making.

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in infrastructure or construction management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multi-site teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills; experienced in managing P&L.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Operational decision-making and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Experience with vegetation management, advanced machinery, or asset control systems.
