This is an exciting opportunity to join us as an Occupational Health Nurse Advisor in a role which is based at London Kings Cross Station. This an interesting and diverse role in which you will be maintaining and developing employee health and wellbeing and preventing work related ill health, directly contributing to the health and wellbeing agenda.

So what will you be doing?
  • Providing an effective sickness absence case management service for managers and staff in LNER.
  • Providing specialist advice to staff and their line managers during periods of ill health and / or sickness absence, along with detailed medical reports summarising recommendations in accordance with best practice and the Equality Act.
  • Providing full on-employment or pre-placement health screening service including Drugs and Alcohol testing.
  • Advising managers of appropriate staff health surveillance programmes in accordance with the legal requirements for Health & Safety at Work, the Health & Safety Executive guidance, and COSSH Standards.
  • Conducting and managing health surveillance programmes for appropriate staff depending on their job role including screening for hearing, vision, respiratory sensitizers and various blood tests / immunisations in accordance with employee group where there is a risk of exposure to noise, respiratory risks, hand arm vibration, night work, COSHH, manual handling, DSE and pressure.
  • Delivering presentations / training sessions to promote health and and occupational health risks.
  • Supporting the retention, development and training of the Incident Care Team to ensure the continued competence and engagement of volunteers.
  • Attending appropriate meetings representing the occupational health and wellbeing team.
  • Conducting health promotion activities.
What do we need you to have?
  • Qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Occupational Health) on Part 3 of the NMC register with a degree or post graduate diploma qualification.
  • Experience of working to ORR Standards would be desirable however training can be provided in the role.
  • Maintenance of professional registration and notifying the Occupational Health Service Delivery Manager each time they go through validation and annual registration is a requirement of the role.
  • Recent and relevant post qualification experience with a strong case management background.
  • Experience of balancing the demands of high volume and changing priority workload including pre-booked appointments / clinics along with service development work, planning health surveillance programmes, respond to urgent enquiries and plan and implement clinical audits.
  • Ability to work as both part of a team and on your own.
  • Experience of providing appropriate assessment, support and referral for potentially difficult and / or distressing situations, i.e. the need to stop work, change work practices or even change career.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office software for storing / retrieving data.
  • Able to innovate and respond to change.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Law and its application to Occupational Health.
  • Working in a previous rail environment an advantage.
  • Previous experience of working within a highly regulated and safety environment.
  • Training in Drug and Alcohol testing/Audiometry/Spirometry, HAVS and membership of ARIOPS would be advantageous.
