Nursing Associate - Children's Haematology and Oncology

Weare looking for a compassionate and motivated Band 4 Registered NurseAssociate to join our Childrens Haematology and Oncology Service. This is anexciting opportunity to work within a highly skilled, supportivemultidisciplinary team caring for children and young people undergoingtreatment for cancer and blood disorders.

Youwill play a key role in providing high-quality, safe and family-centred care,supporting children through investigations, treatments and day-to-dayclinical needs. The role includes delivering delegated nursing care,supporting procedures, maintaining accurate documentation, and workingclosely with families to ensure a positive experience during challengingtimes.

Weare looking for someone who is enthusiastic, resilient, and committed todeveloping specialist skills. You will be supported through induction,education and ongoing professional development within our friendly, dedicatedteam.

Main duties of the job

Toprovide and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation andevaluation of individualised programmes of care.

Todeliver care without supervision

Toparticipate in the in-service training, preceptorship and mentorship ofApprentices and learners.

Totake responsibility as the prime care provider for a group of patients.

The Childrens and Teenage Oncology and Haematology serviceincorporates a Principal Treatment Centre for Children, and for Teenagers andYoung Adults (TYA) with Cancer. We have a JACIE accredited Stem Cell TransplantUnit for children and young people, which forms part of the West Yorkshire BoneMarrow Transplant programme. We care for children and young people with a rangeof non-malignant haematological disorders; Leeds is a Comprehensive Care Centrefor Haemophilia and a Specialist Centre for Haemoglobinopathy.

Job responsibilities

Thenursing associate has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and across thefields of nursing, providing holistic and person-centred care and support forpeople of all ages and in a variety of settings. The nursing associate worksindependently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within thesphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process.

Nursingassociates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudesand behaviours relevant to employment as a nursing associate and will work tothe NMC code of conduct.

Thefollowing criteria identify the core components of the roles, responsibilitiesand accountabilities of nursing associates. They identify what nursingassociates can contribute to the health and wellbeing of patients and serviceusers, and apply across all health and care settings. Integral to all of theseis the ability to communicate effectively, with sensitivity and compassion, andto manage relationships with people, making reasonable adjustments wherenecessary.

  • Current issues in health care
  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role contributes to service development.
  • An understanding of research and evidence based practice.
  • An understanding of the organisation and working practices of the area.
  • An understanding of the process and philosophy of preceptorship.
  • An understanding of the training and development needs of other staff.
  • Following a preceptorship programme, or orientation, a structured appraisal will identify further development needs in line with the clinical area, personal and CSU objectives.

Additional Requirements
  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
  • Educated to a minimum of Level 5 Foundation degree level specific to nursing associate practice. If completed the Nursing Associate apprenticeship must have completed and passed the End Point Assessment
  • GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths and English or equivalent
  • Willing to undergo training as necessary
  • Ability to demonstrate and explain skills to other staff
  • Commitment to own development and the development of other staff
  • Care Certificate
