Job Description

Nursery: Haslemere House Day Nursery
Hours: Full-time (Monday-Friday)
Age Range: 9 months - 5 years

Purpose of the Role

The Nursery Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and day-to-day operation of Haslemere House Day Nursery. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality early years education and care, compliance with EYFS and Ofsted requirements, and a safe, nurturing environment for children, staff, and families.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management
  • Lead, support, and motivate the nursery team to deliver outstanding childcare.

  • Manage staff rotas, deployment, supervision, appraisals, and training.

  • Promote a positive, professional, and inclusive working culture.

  • Ensure effective communication across all rooms and teams.

Safeguarding & Welfare
  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or ensure DSL coverage.

  • Ensure all safeguarding, health & safety, and welfare requirements are met.

  • Maintain accurate records for accidents, incidents, medication, and concerns.

  • Ensure safe recruitment practices and staff suitability checks are in place.

Quality of Care & Education
  • Oversee the implementation of the EYFS framework across the nursery.

  • Monitor planning, observations, and assessments to ensure high-quality practice.

  • Support staff in meeting children's individual needs and developmental milestones.

  • Ensure inclusive practice for children with SEND and work with external professionals when required.

Compliance & Ofsted
  • Ensure the nursery meets and maintains Ofsted and statutory requirements.

  • Prepare for inspections and lead improvement plans.

  • Maintain up-to-date policies, procedures, and documentation.

  • Ensure staff understand and follow all nursery policies.

Parent Partnerships
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and carers.

  • Handle enquiries, feedback, concerns, and complaints professionally.

  • Ensure effective transitions between rooms and into school.

  • Communicate clearly about children's progress, routines, and wellbeing.

Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Oversee daily operations, occupancy, and staffing ratios.

  • Manage invoices and administrative tasks (where applicable).

  • Liaise with external agencies, local authorities, and professionals.

  • Ensure the nursery environment is well-maintained, safe, and welcoming.
