Nuclear Medicine Radiographer / Technologist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Radiographer or Clinical Technologist to apply for a Nuclear Medicine post and join our dedicated multidisciplinary team.

The department, which is integrated in Radiology, has a GE Discovery NM/CT 850 (dual head system with SPECT-CT). Approximately 1500 examinations are carried out per year; these include stress and rest myocardial perfusion scans, DMSA renal scans, renograms, bone scans, V/Q lung scans, Meckel's scans, parathyroid scans and thyroid scans. Due to the diversity of patients who attend, the successful candidate must have the ability to care for patients of all ages referred from various specialties. Therefore it is essential you have great communication and interpersonal skills.

The department presently offers a service from 08.30-17.00hr Monday to Friday but the day may extend to 2000hrs, therefore a flexible approach to working hours is essential.

You are required to be an HCPC registered radiographer or a VRCT registered technologist with an equivalent qualification with evidence of completed and planned CPD; cannulation skills would be an advantage but training can be given for this. You must be eligible to work in the UK.

The unit is committed to the training and development of staff so further development in this role would be encouraged.

Main duties of the job

To administer radiopharmaceuticals and approved non-radioactive pharmaceuticals.

To deliver high quality diagnostic images.

To analyse and manipulate data and to present the results for reporting.

To supervise Health Care Assistants (HCAs) when extended working day sessions are required.

To be responsible for the care, comfort and safety of the patient whilst in the Department and throughout their examination.

To follow the systems of work for the safe receipt, administration and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals and keep accurate records in line with current requirements.

To schedule tests in accordance with an appropriate time table, ensuring that all preparations have been made and all necessary supplies are available.

To set up and oversee daily and weekly quality assurance testing of imaging and counting equipment and to check the results bringing any problems to the attention of the Nuclear Medicine Superintendent

Person Specification Education and Qualification

• Postgraduate Diploma in Nuclear medicine or equivalent in a relevant subject
• State registered with HCPC or VRCT
• DCR or BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography
• Evidence of CPD

Knowledge

• Good understanding of the principles of Nuclear Medicine
• Good understanding of the basics of radiation protection including regulatory issues and aseptic technique.

Experience

• Evidence of UK NHS Radiography/Technologist experience

Skills and Abilities

• Good written and oral communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Enthusiasm and desire to develop and undertake new techniques and skills

Work Related Circumstances

• To be physically fit and have a good health record
