General Description - include all relevant details from the source: The University of Birmingham is recruiting an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer to support integrated academic and clinical training across General Practice or Otolaryngology specialities. This fixed-term role, funded through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Integrated Academic Training pathway, combines clinical service and academic development over a period of up to four years or until the trainee gains their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), whichever comes first. The post is situated within the College of Medicine and Health, reflecting Birmingham's commitment to high-quality research, education and translational clinical practice. The role involves approximately 50% clinical specialty training (providing direct service and progressing clinical competencies) and 50% academic training, offering opportunities to undertake post-doctoral research and build a portfolio that supports successful future applications for independent funding and advancement into clinical academic leadership. Eligibility Criteria

• Medically qualified doctors eligible for training or already progressing toward CCT in General Practice or Otolaryngology.


• Candidates should have submitted their final doctoral thesis (PhD/MD/DPhil) and must have been fully awarded their higher degree prior to taking up the post.


• Applicants must demonstrate the potential to develop as a clinical academic with a commitment to both research and clinical training.

Required Expertise/Skills

• Evidence of academic achievement typically demonstrated through successful doctoral research, with potential for scholarly contribution to research and/or educational domains within the chosen specialty.


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills suitable for collaborative clinical and research environments.

Salary Details

Full-time starting salary typically falls within the range of £45,943 to £77,196 per annum (Grade: Clinical).
