What you'll be doing

Reporting to The Head of Architecture you'll be leading a project for the virtualisation of a mature C# .NET Core WPF application into AWS AppStream, enabling it to be delivered over the web. This is a hands-on, end-to-end role requiring strong engineering and DevOps expertise to adapt an existing application for a cloud-native, virtualised environment.

You'll work across application, infrastructure, and authentication layers to ensure the service is performant, secure, and maintainable.

• Virtualise an existing C# .NET Core WPF application into AWS AppStream.
• Modify and adapt the WPF codebase to ensure compatibility with a virtualised environment.
• Implement OAuth flows for secure web delivery and integration with identity providers.
• Work with ProxySQL and Aurora MySQL to ensure efficient, reliable Back End connectivity.
• Design and implement CI/CD pipelines to enable automated, repeatable deployments.
• Build infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CDK) for scalable deployments.
• Optimise the application for performance, scalability, and maintainability in AppStream.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical delivery with business requirements.
• Document workflows, deployment processes, and architecture for long-term sustainability.

Who we're looking for

• A Senior C# .NET Engineer with strong experience in WPF and .NET Core applications.
• Ideally, hands-on experience virtualising desktop applications in AWS AppStream (or similar).
• Strong understanding of OAuth flows, authentication, and security best practices.
• Skilled with Aurora MySQL and ProxySQL, particularly in high-performance environments.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and deploying applications to the AWS stack.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt Legacy/mature applications to modern cloud environments.
• Comfortable working autonomously, taking full ownership of end-to-end delivery.
• Excellent communicator able to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and document effectively.

What your impact and success looks like

As a Senior Cloud Infra/DevOps Engineer we expect your success and impact over the stages of your contract with us to look something like this:

Within 1 month:

• Gain a full understanding of the WPF application, existing infrastructure, and deployment processes.
• Define requirements, constraints, and success criteria for virtualisation in AWS AppStream.
• Produce an initial architecture and delivery plan.
• Begin modifying the codebase for compatibility with AppStream and OAuth authentication.

Within 3 months:

• Deliver a functional prototype of the application running in AWS AppStream.
• Implement secure OAuth-based authentication and Back End integration with Aurora MySQL via ProxySQL.
• Establish CI/CD pipelines and initial IaC templates for repeatable deployments.
• Demonstrate end-to-end application virtualisation to stakeholders.

Within 6 months:

• Deliver a production-ready, fully virtualised WPF application running on AWS AppStream.
• Achieve seamless OAuth authentication and reliable Back End performance at scale.
• Implement CI/CD and IaC for automated deployments to AWS.
• Provide documentation, knowledge transfer, and a maintainable solution for long-term operation.
• Leave the business with a modernised, cloud-delivered application that can scale and evolve.
