Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate, caring and experienced neonatal nurse to join our well established and friendly neonatal multidisciplinary team working on the neonatal outreach team on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and forward thinking registered neonatal nurse to provide care and support to babies requiring all levels of care whilst encouraging family integrated care from admission and beyond discharge home from the neonatal unit. The post holder will form part of the Neonatal outreach team and will work closely with the Doctors, Neonatal Unit, allied health professionals and community paediatric outreach team.
Main duties of the jobThe Neonatal Unit at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust consists of 16 cots which include 2 intensive care, 3 high dependency and 11 special care cots. We are based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and are looking for experienced neonatal nurses to join our dynamic team.
We have a strong commitment to professional development and service improvement, have commissioned links with several local Universities and can offer an accelerated career pathway for suitable candidates. Our Practice Development Nurse will support you in the ongoing development of your skills and knowledge.
The aim of this post is to utilise and further develop specialist skills in order to provide the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised patient care within their home environment providing support and guidance regarding their baby's ongoing care and developmental needs.
Actively participate in and contribute to the multidisciplinary Neonatal team communicating effectively with the neonate's family/carers and pertinent agencies outside the organisation including complex social cases.

Person specification Education, Qualifications & Training- NMC Registered Nurse (adult or child)
- Diploma or degree in Nursing
- Evidence of further continued professional development in community nursing.
- Neonatal Intensive Care and High Dependency course or equivalent eg ENB 405
- Advanced Neonatal Life Support
- Ability to communicate clearly with parents, relatives and the multi-disciplinary team in English.
- Ability to write clearly and legibly in English
- Competency in IV drug administration & use of infusion devices.
- Knowledge of up to date neonatal nursing and NHS issues
- High motivation and ability to motivate others
- Knowledge of evidence informed and research based practice
- Computer Literate
- Ability to work within a team and independently
- Managerial and leadership ability
- Ability to resolve conflict/dispute in a non confrontational manner
- Experience as a mentor/ assessor.
- Experience in neonatal intensive care nursing.
- Experience of teaching students, and qualified staff.
- Experience in community nursing
- Proven competency in leading a shift on a Neonatal Unit on a regular basis.
