Job Description

HM Land Registry (HMLR) are seeking a Lead Microsoft Platforms Engineer to provide technical leadership and drive improvements across end user services. You'll take the lead on Microsoft technologies including Windows 11, Intune and Autopilot, acting as the technical escalation point for the End User Support Team while mentoring and driving service improvements that impact over 8,000 colleagues across 14 UK HMLR offices. Starting salary £57,000 - £63,900, increasing to £70,900 plus 29% pension contribution and other Civil Service benefits. Flexible, hybrid working from Plymouth.

Job summary

It is an exciting time for HM Land Registry (HMLR) as they continue on a major transformation programme. HMLR's ambition is to become the world's leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data.

HMLR's existing software systems and services form part of the critical national infrastructure, safeguarding land and property ownership valued at £7 trillion. This enables over £1 trillion worth of personal and commercial lending to be secured against property across England and Wales.

They are now looking for a Lead Infrastructure Engineer for Microsoft Platforms to join their Transformation & Technology Directorate.

Within this setting, the Lead Infrastructure Engineer will act as a key point of expertise and collaboration, supporting the End User Support Team and wider IT Operations colleagues. The role holder will provide technical guidance and escalation support, optimise Intune and Autopilot provisioning and enhance the experience of 8,000 colleagues across 14 offices. You will contribute to process automation and service improvement initiatives, collaborating closely with teams in Azure, Power Platform and Server Management to deliver integrated solutions. As part of a supportive and multidisciplinary practice, the Lead Engineer will play an important role in mentoring junior staff, sharing knowledge and raising overall technical capability.

Essential Technical Criteria:

  • Extensive Microsoft Technology platform skills
  • Windows 11 Desktop Management
  • Intune (Autopilot device provisioning/Mobile device management (Intune)
  • Azure Hybrid AD
  • Exchange Hybrid administration
  • Entra ID (Day to day management, App registrations, Entra ID App Proxy)
  • SCCM administration
  • Troubleshooting Windows OS
  • Office 365 management
  • Scripting/Terraform/PowerShell

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of managing technical risk and implementation of appropriate mitigations
  • Experience leading technical change, from high-level planning through to delivery and risk management.
  • Strong grasp of systems design, integration and documentation, with the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
  • Proven technical leadership through coaching, mentoring and effective stakeholder communication.
  • Skilled in analysing complex problems, making sound decisions and implementing practical solutions

Desirable criteria:

  • ITIL Foundation Certificate
  • Knowledge and/or experience of the Government Digital Service (GDS)
  • Service Design Manual
  • PowerBI - Tenant Administration/On Premise data gateway administration
  • MS Defender - Awareness of Cloud App Security/Awareness of Defender for Office
  • MS 365 CoPilot
  • Windows server management
  • Azure - Managing Azure Virtual Desktop/Managing Networking/Managing Storage Accounts/Managing Key Vaults
  • HP Connect

Location

Expectation is to be working from the advertised office 60% of your time across the month (typically 3 days/week), hours are flexible and condensed hours are an option.
