The Merchandiser is responsible for maximising sales, profitability and stock efficiency across their product categories through effective planning, forecasting and commercial analysis. Working closely with MUJI Japan, Retail, Logistics and cross-functional teams, the role develops trading strategies, influences product development and range decisions, and ensures commercial opportunities are maximised across MUJI Europe. The role also supports the development of junior team members and deputises for the Merchandise Manager when required.
Role and responsibilities Range Management- Plan, build, present and sign off with Department Manager bi-annual range plans for the assigned categories.
- Plan range to meet sales and profit targets as agreed with the Merchandising Manager.
- Develop trading strategies to maximise sales, profitability and stock efficiency across assigned categories.
- Influence range planning and product development through sales analysis, market trends, customer insights and supplier feedback
- Plan sales, stock, intake and markdown phasing based on historical analysis.
- Ensure that store distributions are planned in line with agreed stock turn and stock budgets.
- Place orders with the Japanese Head Office and other suppliers with a high degree of accuracy.
- Collaborate with the Visual Merchandising team to deliver seasonal bay plans and in-season adjustments aligned with trading priorities.
- Conduct competitor and market analysis to identify opportunities and support future range development.
- Build strong partnerships with MUJI Japan and suppliers to influence product and commercial decisions.
- Re-forecast sales, stock, markdown and intake to present at weekly meetings and update monthly review documents as necessary.
- Ensure that new lines are launched at the appropriate time.
- Ensure maximum stock availability on continuity product.
- Ensure that seasonal continuity items are removed from sale and relaunched at the appropriate time.
- Analyse and report on a weekly basis trading performance. Propose and action profit driven solutions.
- Monthly warehouse forecast: control supply inbound and outbound.
- Coordinate with the Allocators and the Logistics team to ensure that the stock gets delivered on time and fully into our warehouse.
- Liaise with other departments to facilitate sales in franchise and third party stores.
- Advise and support team members to support their development.
- Provide training to team members when needed.
- Work proactively and independently to improve processes and efficiency within the team.
- Deputise for Merchandise Manager when required in internal and external settings.
- Help the Merchandise Manager setting up templates and processes for the team to follow, to improve standardisation and efficiency across the team.
