A fantastic full time Mental Health Practitioner opportunity has arisen to join the South Oxfordshire CAMHS community team.
The role will undertake assessments and provide brief, evidence-based interventions to children and young people as part of the iThrive model. It involves working with partner agencies including schools and social care to support their understanding of the emotional and mental health needs of children and young people.
In this role, you will work across brief and longer-term work, delivering the iThrive model while working closely with colleagues within other parts of the CAMHS service. They will liaise with wider CAMHS and a range of external agencies such as Children's Social Care, Education, Youth Offending Services, Police, young people's substance misuse services, GP's, and adult mental health services and attend to meetings as necessary. You will offer initial assessments and brief interventions for children, adolescents and their families and carry a caseload of more complex cases.
Main duties of the job- Initial assessment of children and adolescents where there is suspected mental illness.
- Responsible for implementing and coordinating a range of evidence-based interventions which will support the young person's recovery and hold a caseload within the team.
- Liaison with partner agency colleagues providing mental health expertise, pre-referral consultation and training.
- Taking part in duty which involves responding to, offering support and signposting to concerned Young People, families and professionals when there has been a change in presentation whilst open to the service.
- Work collaboratively with parents/families/carers to promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of the young person.
- Mental Health Nurse or Social Work qualification
- Experience of working with children and young people with mental health issues
- Knowledge of a range of motivational interviewing, solution focused therapy and a psychological therapy (i.e. CBT/DBT)
- Experience of and commitment to working in a multi-agency setting working in partnership with a range of health, social care and education professionals.
- Ability to carry out assessments and mental health interventions
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
