Job Description
Job Overview

Permanent, full time, 40 hours per week. Location: North East Region.

We are the UK's largest provider of specialist services in children's residential care, education, mental health rehabilitation and learning disabilities. We are looking for a Mental Health Practitioner to support young people placed in community residential settings.

Main duties

You will provide a clinical service to young people placed within community residential settings. You will assess and identify their needs and support them using a consultation model. Your consultation sessions will allow the care team to review the young person's emotional wellbeing and behavioural presentation, discuss concerns and therapeutic approaches that will be delivered through the care team. You will support with issues such as challenging behaviour, aggressive outbursts, self harm, low mood / suicidal ideation, PTSD, ADHD, anxiety, attachment issues, relationships between the young people and protective behaviours.

Other duties include working collaboratively with management and staff of the residential homes to develop and share a vision of therapeutic work which enhances a young person's life opportunities and choices; providing staff training and workshops; debriefing staff experiencing difficulties with processing traumatic events; and continuous assessment of young people's mental health.

Candidate profile
  • Registered with HCPC, NMC, Social Workers England or BACP.
  • Strong team player with excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience working with children with complex needs/Look After Children in CAMHS, specialist residential settings or Looked After Child services.
  • Background in nursing, social work, counselling, creative art psychotherapy or other therapeutic field (desirable).
