Medical Social Worker

The Coombe Hospital is one of the largest providers of women and newborn health care in the Republic of Ireland. We care for up to 10,000 pregnant women every year. In addition, over 1,000 newborns are admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Centre and over 8,000 adult surgical operations are performed. The hospital provides comprehensive care for women and newborns at local, regional and national levels. The hospital promotes and supports normality in pregnancy and child birth.

Description

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• To provide a direct Medical Social Work service to patients, their partners and families as assigned by the Principal Medical Social Worker
• To keep the Principal Medical Social Worker informed on matters pertaining to casework practice particularly in relation to: Critical cases, Critical Department/Hospital Matters, Medical Social work team developments;
• To provide counselling, information and support as appropriate to hospital patients as per assigned caseload;
• To keep and maintain such records and statistics as are part of the structure of the Medical Social Work Department;
