About the Role: We're hiring a Medical Secretary/Medical Administrator to support our GP practice in Mayo, Ireland. This front liner role involves managing patient appointments, medical records, repeat prescriptions, and referrals using clinical software like Socrates or Helix. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage front desk operations in a busy Irish GP clinic, including greeting patients and answering phone calls.
  • Schedule and manage patient appointments using clinical systems such as Socrates or Helix Practice Manager.
  • Process repeat prescription requests and issue documentation as directed by GPs.
  • Maintain and update electronic patient records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with data protection.
  • Type and send medical correspondence including referral letters, reports, and follow up notes.
  • Coordinate with hospitals, labs, pharmacies, and external healthcare providers as needed.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence including post and email.
  • Take patient payments and maintain accurate financial transaction records.
  • Ensure GDPR compliance and confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Support general medical administrative duties as part of the GP support team.
Key Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or Healthcare Administrator, preferably in a GP practice.
  • Proficiency in Irish GP practice software such as Socrates or Helix.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a clinical team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in medical documentation.
  • Strict adherence to patient confidentiality and GDPR regulations.
Desirable
  • Formal qualification in medical administration or secretarial training.
  • Knowledge of Irish healthcare systems, HSE protocols, and PCRS processes.
  • Experience with insurance billing and medical invoicing.
