Job Description
Medical Receptionist / Care Navigator

We are looking for a Medical Receptionist with a can do approach to join our fast paced practice. You will receive, assist and direct patients, ensuring they access the appropriate service or healthcare professional courteously, efficiently and effectively. Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, in person or via telephone.

Job Summary

Hours: 8 30, 5 day week, shift patterns 8 13 or 13 30. Must be able to meet these criteria.

Responsibilities
  • Provide an effective and efficient reception service to patients and visitors.
  • Handle all general queries, explain procedures and schedule new and follow up appointments.
  • Scan patient documentation and attach scanned documents to patient healthcare records.
  • Accept and process test samples from patients.
  • Support clinical staff with general administrative tasks.
  • Explain practice arrangements, formal requirements and procedures to new patients.
  • File or scan correspondence, reports, results promptly in the correct file.
  • Use e mail to forward correspondence and record and act on all incoming e mail.
  • Process requests for information (e.g., SAR, patient online access) under the guidance of the team leader.
  • Complete opening procedures at the start of the day and closing procedures at the end.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working area; manage stationery stocks.
  • Answer and make telephone calls, divert calls, take messages and ensure accurate details and prompt delivery.
  • Relay GP advice and test results to patients and liaise with external organisations.
  • Input data into patient healthcare records as required.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Participate in audit as directed by the audit lead.
  • Support administrative and prescribing staff, providing cover during absences.
  • Support QOF administration team by contacting and inviting relevant patients to the surgery for reviews and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE Level in Maths & English.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care.

  • Experience working with the general public.
  • Experience of administrative duties.
  • Clear & polite telephone manner.

  • Problem solving & analytical skills.

  • Disclosure (DBS) check required.
  • Experience as a Medical Receptionist in a Healthcare setting.
  • Competent on the use of office & Outlook.
