Medical Receptionist (Part Time)

Job Overview

We are seeking a part-time Medical Receptionist to join our team at Attenborough Surgery. The role involves 95% telephone work and a small amount of administration related to the calls taken. You will be part of our busy practice with a patient list of approximately 33,000.

Responsibilities

• Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
• Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive professional and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
• Contribute towards efficiency and ensure that total confidentiality is maintained when dealing with patients and medical documentation.
• Welcome patients and direct them as they arrive for appointments.
• Deal with telephone requests and enquiries.
• Process repeat prescription requests.
• Make appointments for practice patients with the appropriate health care professional.
• Process requests for home visits.
• Take and deliver messages.
• Process non NHS claim forms and private referral letters.
• Collect fees for non NHS work.
• Update patient computer records as required.
• Inform patients of the results of tests and investigations.
• File and maintain patients' medical records.
• Test the clarity of telephone messages in accordance with practice procedures.
• Secure the practice premises and set the alarm at close of day in accordance with practice procedures.
• Receive and batch deliver specimens to the collection point.
• Perform additional essential duties deemed necessary to ensure the smooth running of the practice (e.g. tidying the workplace, assisting doctors).

Qualifications

• GCSEs in Maths and English.
• Call centre experience.
• Customer service experience.
• Medical Receptionist and EMIS Web experience is an advantage but not essential.
• A background in general practice reception is an advantage.
• Experience with EMIS is an advantage.

Training and Shifts

• Full 2 week training programme required upon acceptance.
• Part time hours available; minimum of 3 half days per week.
• We offer both part time and full time positions.
