Maternity Befriender (Health inequalities)

Are you dedicated to ensuring that women and their families have the best possible experience during their pregnancy and beyond?Are you a highly skilled, motivated Maternity Support Worker with a passion for promoting and safe and effective care for women with complex vulnerabilities in particular those from Inclusion health groups, teenage pregnant women and birthing people; those with learning difficulties in line with national recommendations?The maternity befriender will support the Midwifery team in the provision of optimum midwifery care, planned by a midwife to pregnant women, babies and families within the hospital /community setting.The overarching responsibilities are to support women and pregnant people who are at an increased risk of experiencing health inequalities. This includes but can be extended if the need is required., those form health inclusion groups, those with protected characteristics; those who live in in the top 10 % and 20% most deprived areas accessing maternity care. Act as an advocate for women and babies, liaise with maternity services and community groups to help women navigate the maternity system and integration into the community.
Main duties of the jobUnder the direction of a registrant, participate fully in the delivery of planned Midwifery care within the boundaries of your role which may include chaperoning of women, escorting/ transferring of women and providing 1-1 family centred care or caring for a group of women that require enhanced careHave the ability to organise their own daily workload, when delegatedWork flexibly following procedures, guidelines and best working practices within a confidential environmentTo provide additional support for women and families with complex clinical or social needs either in community/hospital settingTo support and assist women to achieve successful infant feeding in accordance with the local policies and guidelines, giving clear and consistent information.To actively be involved in health promotion including Smoking cessation, Breast feeding, bonding and emotional and mental health needsTo escalate concerns regarding the care of women, babies and families to the midwifeTo establish and maintain good interpersonal skills and communicate between team members women and familiesEnsuring information is communicated in appropriate language to ensure clear understandingBe aware of the needs of women in relation to their privacy and dignity and with regard to different cultures and religious beliefs.Create and maintain a safe, clean environment for women and visitors.Be flexible and willing to undertake additional training to meet changing service needs

Job responsibilities- Level 2 in numeracy and literacy (or equivalent)
- Completed Care Certificate accredited by e-learning for healthcare - evidence of both theory and all practical elements of the skills for health 15 standards (training completed via e-learning only will not be accepted)
- Vocational Level 3 qualification in a Health-related subject regulated by OFQUAL
- For existing Mid Yorkshire staff evidence of Band 2 competency booklet completed
- Any new employees who can evidence competency of core clinical skills, as outlined above in the CSW /MSW Band 3 JD
- Experience of working in a Health and Social Care setting in a Band 2 role or equivalent
