Overview

As a Market Street Development Manager at Morrisons, you will be the subject matter expert in your categories, responsible for developing and enhancing what is made in Market Street, and how it is produced and sold. You will listen to customers and colleagues to develop products and ways of working that satisfy customer needs, ensuring profitability and simplicity for in-store colleagues. Building and maintaining excellent relationships across manufacturing, central, and retail teams is crucial. The role focuses on ensuring the product range is relevant and manageable, with an emphasis on improved quality and reduced price.

Responsibilities
  • Listen hard to our customers and respond to their needs through the product and process development. Consider new and emerging markets and help Buyers to develop products based on customer and colleague feedback.

  • Work closely with buyers to enhance our Market Street range ensuring its relevant, great quality and competitively priced and deliverable for colleagues

  • Engage with our retail, technical, merchandising and buying teams to build excellent working relationships to improve the end to end process, removing waste as you go.

  • Focus on business improvement across colleague, process and products.

  • Subject matter expert in the categories, taking a leading role in all online communities to support the wider business, providing support and advice on any category events including marketing, advertising & public relations.

  • Engage technical and compliance teams to ensure all products are safe, legal and of the right quality, that upholds the Morrisons brand reputation. Support all colleagues uphold the same standards.

  • Coaching your colleagues to build knowledge and understanding, sharing your expertise and passion for the product and business.

  • Develop processes and ways of working to help colleagues to deliver great product and service in a profitable way

  • Works in tandem with the Labour planning team making sure all current and any new processes are captured within the model and stores receive the right hours

  • Deliver products to our customer in the most cost effective way; engaging with retail operations by speaking retail language and fully understanding their operational challenges

  • Engage the wider business through manufacturing, merchandising, buying, marketing, etc. to deliver new concepts, making sure key stakeholders are aligned whilst constantly thinking about how we do things better for our people and our customers.

  • As the subject matter expert, support wider teams as required (e.g. Market Street Operations, Property, Marketing, Training)

  • Work closely with retail operations to drive business performance by understanding store knowledge and capacity, and provide updates, advice and support to improve Market Street performance, ensuring consistency across the range of products

  • Management of concepts from inception to completion, writing briefs or supporting materials as required including writing and maintaining specifications and How I run my guides

  • Control and maintain integrity of all product documentation, including process governance & waste management, ensuring all products developed to Morrisons brand standards

About you
  • Technical understanding and expertise of product development process and Morrisons Market Street manufacturing facilities / abilities.

  • Deep knowledge and experience within the relevant categories

  • Knowledge of food safety and technical requirements in categories

  • Knowledge of equipment, specifications, space, technical drawings & store layout

  • Subject matter expert with a passion for food quality.

  • Creative thinking and ability to convert insight / trends into store.

  • Business improvement knowledge with the ability to break down the cost drivers of cause by over handling products & inefficient processes

  • Skill to engage with Retail and Commercial to share knowledge and improve the ways of working

  • Deep experience in categories - in Retail or Trading, with a knowledge of both

  • Subject matter expert with demonstrable knowledge of retail operations, business improvement & end to end process management & execution.

  • Experienced in visualising and creating store layouts from technical specifications & drawings.
