The Vacancy:

Purpose of the role

To support the Manufacturing Engineering Team Leader and Manufacturing Engineering team, whilst playing an active role in the development of the ME function, supporting customer requirements.

Dependent on skills and experience of applicants, either a Technician or Engineer level role may be considered.

Duties and responsibilities

Perform product inspection and build validation:

  • Complete required FAIR documentation and maintain internal logs; review and approve peer reports when appropriate.
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and methods to verify product, material, and component quality.
  • Ensure products meet design intent, are fit for function, and free from defects.
  • Submit FAIR and related validation documentation to the customer and liaise with them as required.

Support issue resolution for factory operations group (hot desk):

  • Investigate quality and production issues; identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Access, interrogate, and maintain technical product data using a PDM system.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Support internal and external audits, including ISO 9001 and AS9100:

  • Assist in preparation and execution of audits.
  • Identify areas for improvement in product and process quality and ensure appropriate actions are followed up.

Support supplier, process, and customer quality improvement activities:

  • Liaise with supplier quality representatives to address quality concerns and verify effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Support root cause investigations of internal and external non-conformances.
  • Interface with customers to understand and resolve complaints or concerns.

Participate in product/process design and development activity:

  • Contribute technical insights to new product introductions and engineering changes.
  • Support senior engineers in completion of product and process risk analyses (e.g. DFMEA, PFMEA).

General:

  • Take part in continuous improvement initiatives as required.
  • Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably requested.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • BTEC / GCSE level or higher in a relevant technical or engineering field (or equivalent work experience).

Experience

  • Some practical experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Technical

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.

Skills and Competencies

  • Technically minded with a good understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • High attention to detail and methodical work approach.
  • Collaborative team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organised and reliable, able to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.

Qualifications

  • HNC / A Level or higher in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related discipline.

Experience

  • Experience in electronics, cable/harness assembly, or connector-based manufacturing.
  • 1 to 2 years' experience in an engineering role.
  • Exposure to metrology and dimensional inspection processes.
  • Customer-facing or supplier-facing quality work.

Technical

  • Experience using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo).
  • Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Experience navigating PDM/document control tools.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of First Article Inspection (FAI) standards such as AS9102.
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems including ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
  • Exposure to 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams, and similar root cause analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with APQP tools such as FMEAs, Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Control Plans.
  • Basic understanding of tooling and fixture design or development.
