Role Details

12 Month Industrial Placement Scheme - Manufacturing Engineering

Discipline: Global Manufacturing Engineering & Technology (GMET)

Location: Peterborough

Salary: £26,000, Share Scheme, Pension, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).

We currently have opportunities for industrial placement students to join Caterpillar. We are looking for talented, ambitious people from various backgrounds who are interested in building a successful placement year. We provide training, mentoring, and support to help you succeed.

Please note that in order to be eligible to complete a 12 Month Industrial Placement commencing July 2026, you must be in your penultimate year of study unless enrolled in an integrated master's program.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for placement students who thrive in collaborative environments, communicate effectively, are self-motivated with genuine enthusiasm for engineering and technology. You should demonstrate intellectual curiosity, strong analytical thinking and a creative approach to problem solving. Desirable experience includes tools such as AutoCAD, Creo, 3D printing, tooling and fixture design, or appreciation for PLC software. We value adaptability, leadership, problem solving and resilience to succeed in a dynamic, project-driven workplace.

Qualifications

A predicted 2:1 Honour's degree in one of the following subjects:

Recruitment Process

Here is a brief overview of what you can expect when applying to our Placement Student roles:

Online Application: Complete the online application and attach your CV before the closing date. Applications are reviewed after the close date, and you will be contacted if you are progressing to the next stage.

Stage one - Video Interview: If selected, you will be invited to a pre-recorded video interview with one week to complete. You may record answers multiple times. Check your spam for the invite. If successful, you will be invited to an Assessment Centre onsite on 22 January 2026.

Stage two - Assessment Centre: The day assesses teamwork, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving. The day aims to be inclusive and relaxed.

Stage three - Offer: After the Assessment Centre, offers are extended to preferred candidates as quickly as possible. Placement Students start on 6 July 2026.
