About the roleThis is a key leadership role responsible for leading strategic and transformative projects, programs and initiatives across Council. Reporting to the General Manager Strategy and Capability, the Manager Strategic Projects role brings together people, programs and innovation, ensuring work is aligned to Council's strategic objectives, delivered effectively, and supported by strong governance and reporting.
A strong focus of the role is leadership. You will lead and develop a team and work closely with internal stakeholders to build relationships and capability to deliver exceptional outcomes for the community. You will operate at both a strategic and operational level, influencing priorities, managing competing demands, and ensuring projects and programs are progressed in a structured and consistent way.
The role has a strong current focus on climate, energy transition and sustainability-related initiatives, while remaining deliberately adaptable to future strategic priorities such as community resilience, innovation, service transformation and emerging policy directions.
What you will do- Lead and manage a strategic team, building capability and performance.
- Oversee the planning, prioritisation and delivery of key Council projects and programs.
- Provide advice to senior leadership on strategic projects and programs, risks and opportunities.
- Drive collaboration across the organisation to support effective delivery.
- Nurture stakeholder relationships across Council, government and the community.
- Monitor performance, ensuring governance, reporting and accountability.
- Support and lead change initiatives and continuous improvement across the organisation.
We are looking for an experienced people leader with a strong track record in innovative projects and programs delivery that benefit the community. You will bring a practical approach; you thrive in complexity and know how to bring others with you.
You will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications.
- Proven experience leading complex strategic projects or programs for community benefit.
- Ability to translate strategy into delivery, with strong governance, financial and risk oversight capability.
- Demonstrated people leadership, with the ability to build capability and drive performance.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence across Executive, Elected Members and external partners.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and managing competing priorities.
- Clear, confident communication and the ability to build trust quickly.
- Strong judgement, problem solving and decision-making capability.
- A proactive, outcomes-focused approach.
- Experience delivering climate, sustainability, energy, innovation or transformation initiatives (desirable).
- Experience managing externally funded projects and partnerships (desirable).
