Department Description
The Investment Accounting team is a diverse group of 44 colleagues, with a balanced representation of women and men and more than 10 nationalities. The Investments Accounting team consists of two sub teams: Operations and Support & Control ("S&C"). The Operations Team is focused on servicing Investors and Deal Teams. The S&C Team is focused on servicing Operations and other Support teams.
The Investment Accounting team is responsible for the accounting and administration of all
AlpInvest investment - related activities as well as the preparing reports from this information.
Tasks and responsibilities of the Investment Accounting team are:
• Preparing and validating entries for investment related transactions, valuations and other
investment-related information that is uploaded into the portfolio accounting system and used
for reporting and monitoring investments.
• Controlling the integrity of all information in the accounting system through ongoing review,
monthly checks and targeted projects including the accurate application of the valuation policies
in the quarterly valuations prepared by the investment teams for direct investments.
• Developing, preparing and analyzing monthly and annual financial reports for investors and
management.
• Providing support to the investment teams located in the different offices during the deal closing
process, and afterwards during the various stages of the investment process, by providing them
with financial and other deal related information and analysis, both on a regular as well as an
ad-hoc basis.
• Developing and updating policies and procedures to continuously improve investment
accounting and business processes throughout the organization.
• Assisting external auditors in relation to financial and control audits.
Primary Responsibilities Key responsibilities include, among others:
Strategy & Organizational Deployment (5%)
- Co-leading the execution of strategy for the IA Operations Team
Managing Sub-Unit and coordinating with the other Sub-Units (20 %)
- Keep oversight over all processes to ensure that everything is delivered timely, coordinate and manage the activities so they are executed in an effective and efficient manner and if necessary, take action when processes in the IA Sub-Unit are not running smoothly or when new procedures are required.
- Realize process improvements and coordinate the projects with IA S&C: making project planning, engaging and managing project resources, monitoring and reporting progress
Developing Professionals (20%)
- Coach a number of people and manage an IA Sub-Unit.
- Supervising, training and coaching of (junior) colleagues:
- Actively supporting the professional development of junior colleagues.
- Executing the objective setting and appraisal process.
- Signaling potential problem areas
Transactions Processing, Reporting and Support to other Teams (55 %)
- Assume full responsibility for the accounting and reporting activities. Ensuring that all accounting activities and other data in and outside the system are complete, correct, consistently and timely recorded.
- High level of knowledge of the impact of transactions e.g. on metrics and reporting is required. • Validating complex transactions and other information with specific attention to impact on providing complete and correct information in accordance with accounting policies and GAAP requirements.
- Reviewing and analyzing monthly/quarterly and annual financial reports (Financial Statements, Capital Accounts and other reporting for investors and management.
- Coordinating the preparation and review of periodic reports as well as other information requirements from different stakeholders such as deal teams and auditors.
- Analyzing the reports showing thorough understanding of the use of information by the end user. • Developing new and improving existing reports and taking (pro-active) action when new information needs arise or when the needs are changing.
- Coordinating the audit information requirements.
- Designing and reviewing analyses/checks (ad-hoc and standard) necessary to ensure completeness and integrity of information.
- Preparing and updating assigned transaction type definitions and accounting policies/business rules.
- Managing and structuring information flow.
Qualifications
- Bachelor / master's degree in accounting, business economics, business administration
- Good understanding of US GAAP and IFRS guidelines, including the ability to research specific accounting treatments.
Required Skills
- Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience in the field of accounting/control of which 2 years at the supervisory level
- Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
- Strong critical thinking.
- Strong attention for detail, with ability to work on several tasks at the same time.

- Strong communicative skills with demonstrated ability in technical writing, fluency in English.
- Hands on experience with accounting, managing teams and project management.
