University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer a fantastic 12-month secondment opportunity for an experienced nurse, or allied health professional to join our Major Trauma Practitioner team.

We are seeking individuals to join our dynamic and friendly multi-disciplinary team, who can demonstrate significant clinical Major Trauma experience and leadership skills, to ensure high standards of care and co-ordination of patient pathways.

Additional training and opportunities for further educaton will be provided to support you in the Major Trauma Practitioner role.

The Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for the Sussex Trauma Network is based in Brighton at The Royal Sussex County Hospital. The MTC covers a population of 1.5-2million people. The geographical area of the service extends from Brighton in the south to Chichester in the west and towards Hastings and parts of Kent in the east. The MTC is expected to grow and develop over the coming years with the addition of a dedicated helipad in 2025/2026.

Please note that this role is a secondment opportunity. Before applying you must seek agreement and authorisation from your current line manager. Secondments can't be agreed without your current manager's approval. If you are unable to gain your managers approval you should refrain from applying unless you wish to take this role as a fixed term position

Main duties of the job The successful candidate will work collaboratively with specialist clinicians, and collaborate and support the trauma teams in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care unit and the Major Trauma Ward, as well as other surgical areas.

We are privileged to have an extensive, experienced and knowledgeable major trauma multi disciplinary team who the successful candidate will work alongside and lead clinical decision making. Multi disciplinary meetings are held regularly to coordinate the care pathways of patients following major trauma which the successful candidate will attend and facilitate. They will also ensure adherence to National and Trust objectives for Major Trauma services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder will work autonomously and be confident in using their initiative to improve services and raise the Trusts' Major Trauma profile. They will be responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating patient care from the point of admission through to discharge and beyond the hospital into rehabilitation. They will guide the patient and their families through their journey following serious injury.The post holder will also provide autonomous professional direction, education and training to healthcare staff with a focus on Major Trauma.

This post is a secondment for 12 months to cover the needs of the service.

  • University Degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Mentorship qualification or equivalent
  • NMC or other professional body registration
  • Relevant trauma experience, working at a Band 6 within an acute environment
  • Non-medical prescriber
