The Major incident Room are looking for a Manager who will be responsible for the efficient running of a Major Incident Room (MIR) as defined by the Major Incident Room Standardised Administration Procedures (MIRSAP) and support the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) in the management of serious and complex investigations. The post holder will also be responsible for the management of the HOLMES and Word Processing Support teams.

About the role

In consultation with other supervisory MIRSAP roles, you will advise the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) on the level of staff required to carry out the administrative duties efficiently and ensure staff working on live investigations are aware of their impending duties as well as updating them with any developments in the enquiry.

You will brief Major Incident Room (MIR) staff and new staff joining an existing enquiry and, if appropriate, arrange for a scene visit or viewing of a scene video; attend all briefings held by the SIO / Deputy SIO and ensure that other key MIRSAP roles within the MIR attend all briefings. Ensure these meetings are recorded and a briefing book maintained.

You will support the development of the Major Crime Support Team by identifying areas for learning and assume ownership for elements of professional development within the department in accordance with the wishes of the department head and in liaison with the HOLMES Indexing Team Leader, continually monitor the quantity of documentation for processing at all stages, evaluating the documents and amending priorities as necessary.

Application and interview

If you've never completed a competency-based application or interview before, read each competency or value in detail, research the STAR (situation, task, action, result) format

Educated to QCF Level 4 OR work experience deemed to have brought the postholder to a comparable level.

Has a proven investigative track record in criminal investigations and can demonstrate recent exposure (within last 2 years).

Considerable practical experience relating to the Police and Criminal Justice System.

Experience in analysing, assessing and making decisions from large volumes of written and electronic information.

Experience of managing and processing multitask processes whilst demonstrating a high level of attention to detail.

To be proficient at word processing, managing spreadsheets and general use of IT.

Experience of working autonomously and as part of a team, working under pressure to meet deadlines.

Experience of managing individuals and teams.

You should also be aware of the Values (courage, respect and empathy, public service).
