We are seeking a Maintenance Support Person to assist the Maintenance Craftsperson in the upkeep, repair and maintenance of all premises, residential houses, day service locations, external infrastructure and facilities operated by St. Aidan's Services.
The postholder supports the provision of a safe, secure, functional and well maintained environment for individuals, staff and visitors by carrying out routine maintenance support duties, preventative maintenance tasks, external property maintenance and practical site support in line with organisational policies, safeguarding requirements, health and safety legislation and good maintenance practice.

- Assist the Maintenance Craftsperson in inspecting buildings, residential houses, day service locations and facilities to identify maintenance requirements and repair needs.
- Carry out routine maintenance support tasks and minor repairs within competence and under direction.
- Assist with painting, decorating, basic carpentry and non specialist repair work.
- Support upkeep and minor repair of building interiors and exteriors.
- Assist in replacing weather stripping, seals and other minor fixtures where required.
- Assist in assembling, moving and positioning furniture, equipment and supplies safely.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and only within competence.
- Maintain tools, equipment and maintenance stores in a safe, clean and organised condition.
- Assist with external property maintenance including upkeep and minor repairs to fencing, gates, pathways, external fixtures, signage and boundary areas as required.
- Identify and report defects affecting outdoor structures, access routes or site safety.
- Assist the Maintenance Craftsperson in carrying out maintenance works and support approved contractors where required.
- Ensure work areas are prepared, safe and secure during and following maintenance works.
- Assist with moving materials, preparing workspaces and ensuring safe access for maintenance activities.
- Follow all St. Aidan's Services health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Identify and report hazards, defects or unsafe conditions immediately to the Maintenance Craftsperson.
- Report accidents, incidents and near misses in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Comply with lone working procedures and safety protocols where duties are undertaken alone or in isolated locations.
- Use ladders and undertake work at heights only where trained, authorised and in accordance with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Dispose of waste materials, damaged items and maintenance related materials safely and in accordance with organisational procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Identify and report defects or issues affecting building security, access control, site safety or property integrity.
- Carry out maintenance duties in occupied residential and day service environments with due regard for dignity, privacy, safeguarding and minimal disruption to individuals.
- Maintain professional boundaries and work in accordance with safeguarding and protection requirements at all times.
- Ensure maintenance works are carried out respectfully in service user environments.
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues and property related emergencies as directed in line with service requirements.
- Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in general maintenance, facilities support, trade assistant work or a similar practical maintenance role.
- Good practical maintenance / DIY skills.
- Experience using hand and power tools safely.
- Knowledge of safe manual handling practices.
- Awareness of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to maintain basic records / logs.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Willingness and ability to travel between St. Aidan's Services locations as required in order to fulfil the duties of the post.
- Ability to undertake the physical demands of the role including lifting, carrying, moving equipment, using ladders and practical maintenance duties in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- SafePass certification (where applicable).
- Experience in a healthcare, residential or disability service environment.
- Experience supporting preventative maintenance programmes.
- Experience assisting qualified tradespersons or contractors.
