Job Description
As Maintenance Manager at Trigon Hotels in Cork, you will lead the maintenance department to ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and guest satisfaction. You will oversee preventive maintenance, manage budgets, supervise staff, and support the hotel's mission of delivering exceptional hospitality through operational excellence.

Scope of Work- Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the maintenance department
- Control maintenance costs, protect assets, and ensure employee and guest safety
- Reflect and enhance the hotel's mission statement and objectives in all activities
- Strive for correct maintenance within all areas of the hotel
- Attend and take necessary action from items arising at operation meetings
- Rectify daily maintenance issues within the hotel
- Liaise with outside contractors to resolve maintenance issues
- Ensure an efficient planned preventive maintenance system is in operation
- Monitor and control costs, including energy saving initiatives
- Action all items from the "Opera" maintenance list
- Conduct regular hotel inspections to identify maintenance requirements
- Set up and manage maintenance contracts with external companies (e.g., lifts, air conditioning, refrigeration), ensuring competitive quotes and agreement with the General Manager
- Ensure guest safety by eliminating potential risks and hazards
- Check fire detection systems weekly and replace used fire extinguishers immediately
- Prepare and submit the maintenance section of the annual hotel budget
- Supervise on site work for contracted maintenance projects
- Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and fire regulations
- Plan and implement departmental training
- Assist in recruitment, selection, training, and appraisal of maintenance team members
- Attend required meetings (weekly operations, monthly rooms, etc.)
- Stay informed about competitors and industry changes, implementing improvements as appropriate
- Meet weekly with the Deputy General Manager to discuss maintenance issues and solutions
- Compile and update the maintenance game plan manual
- Document and adhere to quality steps at all times
- Handle guest maintenance issues urgently and in line with procedures
- Monitor all maintenance purchasing in line with hotel policy
- Draw up weekly rosters to ensure adequate maintenance coverage
- Maintain a high level of security throughout the department
- Ensure the team is aware of hygiene, security, emergency, fire, health, and safety procedures
- Report all accidents
- Participate in future hotel development and provide support during refurbishments
- Adhere to all areas outlined in the team handbook
- Attend training sessions as required
- Carry out any reasonable request from management
- Lead and manage the maintenance department to ensure smooth hotel operations
- Implement and oversee preventive maintenance programs
- Supervise and train maintenance staff, ensuring high standards of safety and performance
- Manage maintenance budgets and control costs
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance work
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and fire regulations
- Respond promptly to guest and operational maintenance requests
- Conduct regular inspections and address maintenance needs proactively
- Support hotel development and refurbishment projects
- Keen eye for detail and ability to effectively interact with guests, other departments, and housekeeping staff.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and strong organisational skills
- Trainer qualification
- Health & Safety qualification (e.g., First Aid, Manual Handling Instruction, Risk Assessor)
- 2 3 years' experience in a 4 star hotel
