Job Description
Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development.

About the role

"The Maintenance Engineering Team comprises highly skilled professionals with expertise across multiple engineering disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Control & Instrumentation (C&I). The team is responsible for the upkeep and continued performance of the site's plant systems and infrastructure.

They provide comprehensive engineering services to both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring long-term safety, operational reliability, material condition, performance, and regulatory compliance within a highly regulated environment.

This position is for a Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias, who will support the existing team by contributing technical expertise in fault investigation, defect rectification, and the ongoing maintenance of plant and equipment."

Please note this role is based on-site at Dungeness. The contractual hours are Monday to Thursday, 07.25 - 17.00, perfect for someone looking for a four-day week.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Appraisal of emergent plant or equipment deficiencies to allow rectification.
Assist the Senior Maintenance Engineer to ensure that site plant is maintained and is suitably safe, efficient and reliable.
Carry out Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and prepare Method Statements/Work Instructions for all defect maintenance.
Provide technical support for maintenance activities and projects where required.
Comply with the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments. Support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety Environment and Quality on Site.
As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support delivery within his or her range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

Appropriate HNC, Degree or National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 5
Knowledge and experience of fixed installation testing to BS7671, and Knowledge of fault rectification on LV small power and lighting circuits.
Knowledge and experience of Industrial processes such as but not limited to:
Motor control (automated VSD, DOL, Duty/Standby, etc.)
Process heating
Air handling systems
PLC driven processes
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Desirable:

Knowledge and experience of HV systems, their maintenance requirements, and protection arrangements (including Power Transformers, HV Switchgear)
Familiarity with the application and use of safe systems of work.

No previous nuclear experience is necessary as training can be provided.

The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee's annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.

Please be aware this role holder requires security clearance, or the ability to obtain said clearance.

There is a requirement to live within a commutable distance to the sites where the role is based. For central/multi-site roles, we have various hubs across the UK and can be flexible with base location.
