Job Description
This role exists to support the manufacturing operations that take place within the Machine Shop. Manchester, UK Full Time, Permanent GCSE or higher in Maths and English. Responsibilities:

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Comply with all company health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices.
  • Report hazards, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy working area in accordance with 5S principles.

Manufacturing Operations

  • Assist with the setup and operation of CNC turning and milling machines under supervision.
  • Load and unload components safely and efficiently.
  • Learn the fundamentals of cutting tools, workholding and machine operation.
  • Support machine operators and setters in achieving production requirements.
  • Carry out routine machine cleaning and basic maintenance tasks as instructed.

Quality & Inspection

  • Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Use vernier callipers, micrometers, plug gauges and other inspection equipment.
  • Complete basic dimensional inspections and record results accurately.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting quality concerns.

Learning & Development

  • Attend all apprenticeship training sessions and college commitments.
  • Complete coursework and workplace evidence within agreed timescales.
  • Seek feedback from mentors and supervisors to support development.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning new skills and processes.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work effectively with colleagues across manufacturing and support functions.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and mentors regarding progress and issues.
  • Participate in team meetings and improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect towards colleagues and customers.
About You:

Experience

  • GCSE Grade 4 or higher in English and Maths
  • Interest in Engineering, Manufacturing or Machining.

Skills

  • Good numerical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
