Job Description Position Title:

External keystore (HSM) is mandatory for this role.

Note: HSM is still only highly desirable on the basis that we will handle the work in house if a candidate meets all the other mandatory criteria and we will use them for backfill.

Database Engineer - SAP/Sybase Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer with deep expertise in SAP/Sybase technologies to join our infrastructure engineering team. This role focuses purely on database infrastructure engineering without operational DBA responsibilities.

The successful candidate will design, implement, and enhance our SAP/Sybase database environments, with emphasis on security and automation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and implement SAP/Sybase ASE and Replication Server infrastructure solutions
2. Create and maintain Shell Scripts and T-SQL code for automation and management tasks
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement database security best practices
4. Document technical solutions for both specialist and non-specialist audiences
5. Contribute to continuous improvement of database infrastructure

Mandatory Skills

1. Extensive experience with SAP/Sybase ASE 16
2. Proven expertise with SAP/Sybase Replication Server 16
3. Strong SAP/Sybase T-SQL development skills
4. Strong Shell Scripting (bash or ksh) skills
5. Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8
6. Fluent spoken and written English

Highly Desirable Skills

1. Experience with SAP/Sybase ASE 15.7
2. Experience with SAP/Sybase Replication Server 15.7
3. Experience with RHEL 7 and Solaris 10
4. Python 3.9+ programming skills
5. Have previously implemented SAP/Sybase ASE 16.0 full-database encryption (note: NOT column encryption)
6. Experience configuring external HSM keystores for ASE 16 encryption keys

1. Jenkins for CI/CD pipelines
2. Ansible for infrastructure automation
3. SRE experience with focus on automation to reduce toil
