Job Description
London Faculty Member: History

Location: London - On site (Verto Education). Verto Education is a mission driven organization that provides experiential education to college students before they transfer to partner universities in the United States.

About the Role

Successful candidates will be highly motivated, energetic, student oriented educators who bring courses to life for students through a combination of active classroom learning and experiential education. Faculty are committed to undergraduate teaching and experiential education, working with diverse students early in their higher education journey.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver courses using provided syllabi, LMS (Canvas), and textbook resources.
  • Adhere to local and global faculty and course requirements, including delivering all expected contact hours and maintaining the teaching schedule and curriculum.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment and treat all students, faculty and staff with respect.
  • Develop relevant, discipline based, up to date course content and applied learning experiences.
  • Evaluate students' homework and provide regular and formative feedback; assess student mastery of course objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Participate in faculty training and professional development (up to ten hours per semester for new faculty, an additional five hours of ongoing development).
  • Teach all scheduled courses and host weekly office hours; respond promptly to student inquiries.
  • Champion student success through holistic support, monitoring attendance and engagement, and providing accommodations as needed.
  • Enforce policies on attendance, academic integrity, and address related grading questions or appeals.
  • Maintain accurate academic records related to student enrollments, attendance and performance.
  • Accurately calculate and submit grades on time via the LMS and the Academic Provider's grade reporting software.
  • Build positive, collaborative, professional relationships with program participants, staff and community partners.
  • Share feedback with local and global academic leaders to support academic excellence.
  • Participate in curriculum development projects and assessment initiatives as directed by the University of New Haven and Verto Education.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.
  • Foster learning environments that are respectful and positive, characterized by learner centered approaches to instructional design and delivery:
    • Help students develop their academic identity and foundational academic skills with appropriate levels of challenge and support.
    • Appropriate use of professional language and tone, modeling constructive feedback and conflict negotiation.
    • Active classroom management and consideration of power dynamics in faculty student relationships.
    • Audit course materials for representation of diverse student populations by including local and global perspectives.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree required; terminal (PhD) in History or closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum eighteen graduate credits in the field of study relevant to the course(s).
  • At least two years of teaching experience in History, including at least one year at the university level.
  • Demonstrated success teaching students with varied learning styles and abilities.
  • Experience working with students of diverse economic, racial, cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Openness to feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort implementing policies and classroom standards aligned with established protocols.
  • Passion for active, experiential, reflective and discussion based learning.
  • Eager to collaborate and work in teams.
  • Legal right to work in the United Kingdom; no visa sponsorship.
