Locum Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV

This post is a fixed term locum consultant post.
An office base with administrative support will be provided.
This post will involve working within the varying opening hours of the service including some early mornings, evening clinics in Reading. The base clinic will be at the Royal Berkshire Hospital site (21a Craven Road, Reading).
The appointee will join the existing team to provide specialist, expert care within the field of Sexual health and HIV.
This post is outpatient-based but will also include providing expert advice to inpatient teams and reviews of inpatients on an ad hoc basis.
Applicants should have full General Medical Council (GMC) Registration with a current license to practice. They should have obtained CCT or CESR in Genito-Urinary Medicine, or expect to obtain within six months of the interview date.
Main duties of the job- To provide care for patients attending integrated sexual health appointments, HIV clinics and walk-in sessions.
- To contribute to the Doctor of the day (DOD) rota and provide an advisory role within clinic, including support for nursing and resident doctor colleagues.
- To provide training and supervision of medical students and postgraduate trainees.
- To provide, with colleagues, expert advice and decision making within multidisciplinary team meetings for HIV, genito-urinary medicine (GUM) and safeguarding.
- To provide review of patients in inpatient settings and expert advice to other medical specialties.
- Active participation in clinical governance meetings within the department.
- Participation and involvement in meetings and other business in the Sexual Health and HIV service.
- Play an active role in the education and supervision of medical students, resident doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Take a proactive approach to patient safety and quality improvement, including participation in audits, clinical governance meetings, and implementing quality improvement methods.

- Full registration with the GMC with a current license to practice
- Holds CCT or CESR in Genito-urinary Medicine or is within 6 months of gaining CCT or CESR at interview date
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent
- Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine or equivalent
- Diploma in HIV Medicine or equivalent
- Fully trained in Sexual Health and HIV medicine
- Experience of complex outpatient HIV care
- Experience of genital dermatology care and complex GUM
- Ability to make clinical decisions at consultant level
- Experience of managing vulnerable populations within an MDT
- Experience of inpatient HIV care
- Ability to work within clinical governance guidelines
- Undertake audits and present data as required
- Good IT skills, use of patient and hospital database
- Evidence of providing good teaching and supervision to trainees
- Track record of publications in peer reviewed journals
- Higher research degree or qualification (e.g. Masters, PhD etc)
- Completion of a formal training/teaching skills course
- See patients as individuals and involve them in decisions about their care
- Ability to work in partnership to deliver a patient centred service
- Respect diversity and is non-judgemental towards sexual orientations and gender identities in patients and team members.
