Thepost will be based at St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH). We also provideoutpatient services at Leeds General Infirmary and Wharfedale General Hospital.We are a large yet cohesive department. We provide care for all aspects ofgastrointestinal disease to a large local population and receive tertiaryreferrals into our subspecialty services.

Weprovide high quality endoscopy training and we operate up to 8 endoscopy roomsacross Leeds, the majority of which have recently been refurbished withstate-of-the-art equipment. We provide a wide range of diagnostic andtherapeutic procedures, including bowel cancer screening, ERCP, diagnostic andinterventional EUS, advanced EMR/ESD, stenting, wireless capsule endoscopy,double balloon and spiral enteroscopy.

Main duties of the job

Theaim of the post is to pursue a specialist interest in ERCP/EUS and to support the pancreatobiliary endoscopyservice, whilst also contributing to the growing workload in gastroenterology.The post holder will work directly with four other consultants in providing atertiary pancreatobiliary endoscopy and medicine service. The post holder willtake part in the general gastroenterology inpatient care which is organised ona rotational basis. In the outpatient setting we expect the post holder to helpdeliver high quality care by providing general gastroenterology and specialistpancreatobiliary clinics each week. In addition, the post holder will beexpected to contribute to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching,departmental audit and governance.

Tolink with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams withinthe CSU and across the Trust.

Towork with colleagues in the gastroenterology department to deliver acute oncall (currently 1 in 14) for gastroenterology and hepatology inpatients,including acute gastrointestinal bleeding. This includes both out-of-hourscover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours.

To contribute to research, teaching and newdevelopments within the department. The post holder will be encouraged tofacilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programmes on goingin the department.

Thisis a 10 PA locum appointment for a Locum

ConsultantGastroenterologist with a specialty interest in EUS/ERCP.

Thispost will deliver 10 PAs supporting both the inpatient and outpatient generalgastroenterology service, but with a focus on contributing to the provision ofpancreatobiliary endoscopy and medicine.

Thepost will be based at St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH). We also provideoutpatient services at Leeds General Infirmary and Wharfedale General Hospital.We are a large yet cohesive department. We provide care for all aspects ofgastrointestinal disease to a large local population and receive tertiaryreferrals into our subspecialty services.

Wehave two inpatient wards in the modern Bexley wing at SJUH. Both wards haveexcellent, well established teams of nursing staff and we are well supported byour experienced gastrointestinal pharmacy, dietetic, and radiology colleagues.

Weprovide high quality endoscopy training with JAG accreditation. We operate upto 8 endoscopy rooms across Leeds, the majority of which have recently beenrefurbished with state-of-the-art equipment. We provide a wide range ofdiagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including bowel cancer screening, ERCP,interventional EUS, advanced EMR/ESD, stenting, wireless capsule endoscopy,double balloon and spiral enteroscopy, and biliary manometry.

Ourtrainees gain valuable experience in managing complex patients within oursubspecialty services. These include a large inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)service (supported by a team of IBD nurse specialists and weekly MDT with ourradiologists and IBD surgeons), enteral and parenteral nutrition (PN)(including home PN), small bowel disease, and pancreaticobiliary medicine.

Thereis a strong research background to the unit with our three academic consultants(Prof. Ford and Dr Subramanian). The research unit is based in the LeedsInstitute of Research at St Jamess on SJUH site. There are existing researchprogrammes in the molecular biology of colorectal cancer and IBD, and currentclinical research projects in IBD, functional gastrointestinal disorders, andendoscopy.

Thereare close links with the Clinical Research Network. Our trainees and fellowsparticipate in recruitment for our portfolio studies, working closely with ourresearch nurses.

Person Specification Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

• Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: - CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR (or) - European Community Rights

Clinical Experience and Career Progression

• Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in gastroenterology in and outpatients
• Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
• Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
• Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors
• Competent in EUS and ERCP.
• Completion of a recognised post-CCT HPB Endoscopy fellowship
• Experience in training endoscopic skills.
• Experience in running a tertiary HPB Medicine clinic.
• Evidence of completion of EUS/ERCP audit.
