The Endocrinology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital would like to announce an exciting opportunity for a 0.4 WTE substantive Consultant Paediatric Endocrinology post with an interest in Adrenal Disorders. The post-holder will join ten other existing consultants leading multi-disciplinary teams in different areas of paediatric endocrinology. The post-holder will gain wider experience of managing complex general endocrine disorders and will manage a cohort of patients with complex adrenal conditions.

The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues to support and develop the adrenal service. The successful candidate will share the responsibilities for the endocrine service including supporting the congenital hypothyroidism service. There will be a commitment to an outreach clinic four times per year.

The clinical service is closely aligned with both clinical and molecular research at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health and collaborative partners, and the post-holder will be encouraged to develop an active research programme into rare endocrine disease and adrenal disorders at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health (UCL). The post-holder will participate in teaching activities of the endocrine service, offered to the referring hospitals and within the trust, and be responsible for educational/clinical supervision of trainees.

Main duties of the job

This is a 4PA fixed term one year consultant post for general endocrinology with a subspecialty interest in adrenal disorders. The post-holder will join ten other existing consultants leading multi-disciplinary teams in different areas of paediatric endocrinology. The post-holder will gain wider experience of managing complex general endocrine disorders and will manage a cohorts of patients with adrenal disorders.

The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues to support and develop the Adrenal service. The holder will run a weekly Adrenal clinic, and a weekly general endocrine clinic.

Person Specification GOSH Culture and Values

• GMC specialist registration (obtained by designated start date)
• Membership of the Royal College of Physicians/ Paediatricians or equivalent MRCPCH/FRCPCH
• CCT/CCST in Endocrinology (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR).
• CCT in Paediatric Endocrinology (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience
• Higher degree - PhD, MD or equivalent
• Formal teaching qualification

Experience/Knowledge

• Extensive experience in Paediatric Endocrinology
• Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary team
• Experience of leading in Clinical Audit processes
• Published research in peer reviewed journals in relevant area
• Awareness of the importance of Clinical Governance through experience of participating in quality or safety improvement projects.
• Level 3 Safeguarding Training
• BLS Training
• Experience and training in Paediatric adrenal disorders
• Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials
• Experience of working in shared care clinics and clinical networks
• Experience of clinical leadership or management

Skills/Abilities

• High level written and oral communication skills
• Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
• Ability to work under pressure in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
• Ability to work on own initiative within an ever-changing environment.
