Senior Litigation Solicitor / Senior Associate - Gillingham

Department: Litigation / Dispute Resolution

A highly regarded regional law firm is seeking a Senior Litigation Solicitor / Senior Associate to join its Litigation/Dispute Resolution team in Gillingham. This is a senior appointment, ideal for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate with the expertise and leadership capability to support and develop the Firm's growing litigation practice.

Purpose of the Role

You will undertake high-quality, complex litigation work while playing a pivotal role in supervising, mentoring, and contributing to the strategic growth of the litigation team. This role offers the opportunity to influence standards of client service, technical excellence, and team development in line with the Firm's values.

Key Responsibilities

Client Work and Technical Excellence

  • Conduct a broad range of contentious matters to the highest professional standards.
  • Manage litigation cases autonomously, maintaining profitable and well-managed caseloads.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic, commercially focused advice to clients.
  • Ensure efficient, cost-effective progression of matters in line with professional obligations.

Practice Areas

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in at least two of the following:

  • General civil litigation
  • Property litigation
  • Contested probate
  • Employment
  • Insolvency

Supervision and Team Leadership

  • Mentor and supervise junior litigation solicitors, trainees, and other lawyers.
  • Act as a senior technical resource within the team.
  • Review work, provide constructive feedback, and support professional development.
  • Assist with work allocation, supervision structures, and recruitment activities.

Strategic Contribution & Business Development

  • Collaborate with partners to develop and sustain the litigation practice.
  • Contribute to service development, workflow improvements, and strategic planning.
  • Play an active role in marketing, networking, and building the Firm's profile.

Financial Management & Risk

  • Maintain strong financial control over matters, including billing, WIP, and cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, risk management, and file management requirements.
  • Uphold high standards of ethical and professional conduct.

Requirements

Qualifications & Regulatory:

  • Qualified Solicitor or equivalent, authorised to practice in England & Wales.

Experience:

  • Ideally 10+ years PQE in litigation (consideration given to exceptional candidates with less PQE).
  • Proven ability to manage complex litigation matters independently.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing lawyers.
