LINUX Engineer (Service Support)

Salary: £45,000 + 10% Allowance + Bonus - Total Compensation circa £50,000

Location: Stevenage - full-time on-site

Clearance: DV Cleared or DV Clearable. Initially SC Cleared

The role:

As Linux Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our live services. You will join our established team providing support to customers' IT systems.

This opportunity is customer-facing; therefore, strong communication skills and the ability to work well with clients are essential.

You will support our high-profile customer through the implementation and configuration of complex IT solutions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Receive and review customer-related system issues via a ticketing system and resolve issues to maintain system operational states within SLA and KPI targets. Document processes for first-time fixes and quick resolutions.
  2. Monitor system status and report issues promptly to service management and relevant teams.
  3. Maintain high customer satisfaction by understanding and meeting customer needs within your support role.
  4. Provide server and application support, utilizing automation, creating build images, documentation, work instructions, and configuring Linux servers. Strong scripting skills are required.
  5. Mentor and train junior team members to enhance team knowledge and skills.
  6. Contribute to other tasks as directed by Service Delivery Managers and participate in new work initiatives.

Your Skills:

  • Knowledge of Linux systems, including supported legacy Unix OS such as Solaris 5.7, 10.x, 11.x, and modern distributions like RHEL 5.x to 9.x, Debian 10.x, 11.x
  • Linux system administration
  • Scripting skills in Python, Bash, KSH
  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible
  • VMWare deployment and configuration
  • Experience with backups using NetApp, SAN, and Cohesity
  • Understanding of security frameworks, device encryption, digital certificates, and anti-virus tools
  • Hardware knowledge and its interaction with Linux OS
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve system issues and analyze system performance
