Licensing Enforcement Officer

Permanent

Grade C - £35,412 - £41,771

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

Do you have experience of investigating complaints? Can you remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations?

We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Licensing Enforcement Officer to support investigations, compliance checks, and enforcement activities across licensed premises in the city.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll work closely with businesses, the public, and partner agencies to uphold licensing standards.

What you'll do
  • Conduct visits to licensed premises to ensure compliance and provide advice on best practice.
  • Investigate complaints and requests for assistance, gathering evidence and preparing reports.
  • Take statements, attend court hearings, and participate in enforcement exercises (including evening/night work).
  • Respond to enquiries and maintain accurate records on departmental systems.
  • Contribute to team meetings, reports, and statistics to support service delivery.
What we're looking for

You will have

  • A Professional Licensing Practitioner Qualification (PLPQ) and/or equivalent enforcement experience
  • A Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Experience of working with the public and handling complaints including investigative skills (e.g., interviews, evidence gathering).
  • Knowledge of legal requirements during investigations.
  • Competent in using computer systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports.
  • Confident working under pressure and using initiative.
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Comfortable attending court and giving evidence.
