Liberal Arts Academic Leader

RESPONSIBILITIES

• The key role of the Liberal Arts & Humanities Academic Leader is to deliver up to 15 hours of high-quality tuition per week as part of the Morning Academic programme.
• Reporting to the Course Director and Director of Studies, the role involves planning and delivering engaging, structured lessons that explore key ideas in Liberal Arts and the Humanities.
• Plan and deliver engaging, varied, and well-structured lessons in Liberal Arts and the Humanities, in line with the course syllabus.
• Introduce students to key themes in areas such as history, culture, philosophy, and society, encouraging discussion and critical thinking, encouraging exploration of "big ideas" that have shaped human thought, culture, and society, linking these to contemporary issues.
• Create a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment where students feel confident to express ideas, debate perspectives, and participate actively.
• Develop students' creativity, problem-solving, and presentation skills through interactive tasks, group work, and projects.
• Maintain appropriate standards of student behaviour, ensuring a positive and focused learning environment in line with guidance from senior staff.
• Attend meetings with the Course Director and Director of Studies to review student progress, provide feedback, and address any concerns.
• Complete all required administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate registers, records of learning, and student reports.
• Support end-of-course activities, including attending Final Presentations where possible.
• Follow safeguarding procedures at all times and contribute to a safe, positive, and enriching environment for students and colleagues.
• Ensure all quality control processes are completed professionally, including accurate record keeping and proper use of equipment and facilities.

PERSON SPECIFICATION - LIBERAL ARTS & HUMANITIES ACADEMIC LEADER

All staff contribute to the smooth running of the camp. The safety of students is paramount, and high standards are expected at all times.

Academic Leaders are expected to maintain high personal standards and demonstrate a friendly, positive, and approachable manner. They must remain professional and calm, handle sensitive situations with care and discretion, and adhere to confidentiality and data protection guidance. Strong organisational skills and a passion for education are essential.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL

• Have experience teaching or working with young people in an academic or educational setting.
• Have a strong background or interest in Liberal Arts, Humanities, or a related field.
• Be confident and engaging, with the ability to lead discussions and explain ideas in a clear and accessible way.
• Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and student participation through interactive teaching.
• Demonstrate strong communication, organisation, and teamwork skills.
• Show a clear commitment to safeguarding and student welfare.
• Hold a relevant academic or teaching qualification (desirable but not essential).
