Legal Support Assistant - Real Estate Commercial

To enable us to deliver the right outcomes to our clients, with a commercial edge, we need effective and efficient Legal Support Assistants who can support our qualified fee earners on matters.

A Legal Support Assistant assists with the management of the post completion process for the Real Estate Commercial team. The Legal Assistant will be assisting our fee earners in London from our Manchester office. Responsibilities include performing Land Registry searches, applications and requisitions, as well as opening and closing files, account balances and electronic posts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diarising OS1 dates for matters.
  • Dealing with Companies House registration (MR01)
  • Preparing and submitting the stamp duty land tax form (SDLT1)
  • Dealing with requisitions from the Land Registry effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Preparing and lodging AP1/FR1 applications at the Land Registry and ensuring all documents accompanying applications are attached, dated and signed.
  • Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date Post Completion records. Ensuring all records are maintained and kept up to date according to JMW's policies and procedures.
  • Updating and responding promptly to any requests from lenders, brokers and clients on the progress of registrations.
  • Sending copy completion of registration to clients and lenders, along with any other documents that may be required by lenders.
  • Opening new files and inputting data for new instructions.
  • Dealing with any balances on account in accordance with the firm's policy.
  • Closing and archiving files once all post completion matters and balances have been dealt with.
  • Scanning/filing, binding, photocopying and archiving/closing files.
  • Managing electronic and physical post, including allocation to the firms' case management system.
  • Ensure compliance with JMW's internal policies and guidelines.
  • Any other duties within the scope of responsibility and ability, as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Experience within a post-completion administrative role
  • Excellent IT skills particularly with experience in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing, including dealing directly with clients when required
  • Strong team working ethic
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be proactive.

Desirable:

  • A wider knowledge of the law and practices applicable to the department/area of specialism.
